Ms. Barry will be featured on Shannon Walsh’s recital singing as the soprano solo in Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen, BWV 51. This cantata was written in Leipzig and is the only cantata Bach composed for soprano and trumpet. It was composed for general use, not for a specific Sunday. This performance will feature supplemental text written by Bach himself, in the first and third movements. Bach set the closing chorale as a chorale fantasia where the soprano sings the unadorned melody to a trio of violins and continuo. The movement then closes with an unusual festive fugal Alleluja. The cantata evidences “overflowing jubilation and radiant beauty.”
